Faculty of Computer Science:
Chair of Software Engineering

In order to fill a fixed-term position in part-time, full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%; 29.87 hours/week = 75%; 19.915 hours/week = 50%) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for  1

Research associate and PhD student (m/f/x)

The Chair of Software Engineering, led by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Berger, combines foundational and applied research to automate software engineering for the next generation of intelligent, autonomous, and variant-rich software systems. We explore new ways of software creation, analysis, and evolution. Our application domains are automotive systems, systems software, software ecosystems, and mobile robots, among others. See se.rub.de or easelab.org for more details. The chair is part of the Faculty of Computer Science with world-class researchers in different areas of computer science, such as security. Many collaboration opportunities exist with the Cluster of Excellence CASA and the Max-Planck Institute for Security and Privacy, as well as with other faculties.

We are looking for a research associate and PhD researcher. The position requires conducting high-quality research, with publication at relevant peer-reviewed venues, supervised by Thorsten Berger and co-supervised by further senior researcher(s) in software engineering. In the context of the research project, you are also expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form. The research project focuses on novel methods and tools for data-driven root-cause analysis. We will experiment with AI-based techniques, design and evaluate LLM/DL-model-based agents for identifying and fixing the root causes of software failures from runtime data. The project is in collaboration with a large automotive company in Germany.
