The research professorship “Curating Digital Objects of Cultural Knowledge and Memory” of the Faculty of History is looking to appoint at the earliest possible date a

Researcher/Doctoral student (m/f/x) for the duration of 4 years with 25,8895 hours/week TV-L E13

In 2021, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen established the Research Alliance Ruhr to bundle their cutting-edge international research on the most urgent challenges facing humankind. There will be four research centers and a college. This is just the latest chapter in our long-standing collaboration as the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), a community of 14,000 researchers and 120,000 students in the heart of Germany.

The research professorship combines approaches from the social sciences and humanities. It is dedicated to the study of memory work and its social and material infrastructures (e.g. commemorative initiatives, independent archives, museum collections), especially in the context of post-migrant societies and entangled global histories. The research examines forms of memory work and its significance for knowledge production and social participation and exclusion.

We are looking to expand the team and hire a doctoral student. Teaching is optional.

Your tasks:

  • Development and implementation of a doctoral research project in the context of the professorship’s research programme (https://www.college-uaruhr.de/research/research-professors/curating-digital-objects-of-cultural-knowledge-and-memory)
  • Participation in the events of the research programme
  • Contribute to the research programme

Your profile:

  • Master degree in cultural or social anthropology, history, art history, sociology art history, sociology or closely related disciplines
  • Basic knowledge of cultural and social theories
  • Scientific curiosity and openness
  • Experiences in teamwork
