The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a tenured full-time Professor W3 (m/f/d) in Low-carbon High-Temperature Processes for Industrial and Energy Systems commencing October 1st, 2025.

The holder of the position will represent the subject of

Low-carbon High-Temperature Processes for Industrial and Energy Systems

in research and teaching.

The new professor is expected to be active and advance this topic in both research and teaching. The main focus of the research activities should lie in low-CO2, high-temperature processes occurring in industry and powerplant technology, such as modern power cycles as well as steel, cement and lime, glass and, generally, chemicals production. In this respect, usage of renewable fuels, including waste-based fuels, as energy source for such applications should be a major research interest. Experience in electrification of high-temperature processes in industrial and energy systems is also welcome.

Applicants must be internationally renowned experts in the relevant field of research, with proven leadership skills and, preferably, an industry background, and willing to actively participate in the further development of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and of the Ruhr-University at large. Acquisition of third-party funding from a broad spectrum of sources, including industry and public funding agencies is expected. In particular, it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute in a leading role to the research activities to be carried out within the DFG-funded CRC/TRR287 Bulk-Reaction (https://bulk-reaction.de/). Applicants should possess a wide and proven experience in both experimental and numerical techniques for the investigation of reactive multiphase flows.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching at Bachelor and Master level in the Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering as well as Sales Engineering and Product Management degree programmes. Proven skills in higher education didactics and the ability to teach in both German and English are expected.
