The Department of Neurophysiology at the Faculty of Medicine is looking for a

research associate / Postdoc (m,f,x) for research into rodent place cells and neuronal oscillations for 2 years with 39,83 hours per week, TV-L E13

The Department of Neurophysiology within the Medical Faculty hosts a vibrant and talented team of neuroscientists from a variety of scientific backgrounds that implement multidisciplinary approaches to understanding the mechanisms underlying memory. One particular focus is on the mechanisms underlying acquisition and long-term retention of associative memory (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=manahan-vaughan). English is the working language of the team.

A postdoctoral position is currently available for a candidate (m,f,x) that has a strong background in the functional scrutiny of place cell activity and hippocampal neuronal oscillations.

extent: full-time
duration: temporary

application deadline: 21.10.2024

Your tasks:

  • You will examine the interaction of hippocampal synaptic plasticity, place cell activity and neuronal oscillations in the generation of spatial representations and memory in rodents.
  • Your work will complement ongoing research within the department that examines associative memory acquisition, retention and retrieval at multiple levels of abstraction and using multidisciplinary research tools.
  • You will be involved in teaching physiology for medical students.

Your profile:

  • A Doctoral degree in Neuroscience or a related field is required.
  • Competence in quantitative data, advanced signal analysis and programming knowledge (e.g. Python, Matlab).
  • Experience in neuroscientific research is essential, and in the area of hippocampal place cells is a plus.
  • Initial experience in scientific publishing and presenting research results.
  • You can work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • You can work in a multicultural environment.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
