The Chair of Computational Neuroscience/Institute for Neural Computation at the Faculty of Computer Science is looking for a

Doctoral Position (m,f,x) for 3 years with 25,8895 hours per week, TV-L E13

The research group is highly dynamic and uses diverse computational modeling approaches including biological neural networks, cognitive modeling, and machine learning to investigate learning and memory in humans and animals (https://rub.de/cns).

extent: part-time
duration: temporary

application deadline: 31.05.2024

Your tasks:

  •  Are you curious about how the human brain stores memories? Have you wondered how we manage to navigate through space? Our dynamic research group uses diverse computational modeling approaches, including biological neural networks, cognitive modeling, and machine learning/artificial intelligence, to study learning and memory. Currently, we are actively seeking a talented graduate student to join our team, someone who will expand our computational modeling framework CobeL-spike (https://doi.org/10.1007/s00429-023-02637-8) and use it to study how spiking neural networks can learn to navigate.

Your profile: Candidates must

  • have a masters degree in neuroscience, physics, computer science, mathematics, psychology, or a related field
  • be able to work independently
  • have experience in computational modeling
  • have good programming skills
  • have good communication skills in English, and
  • work well in a team.

Our offerings:

  • challenging and varied tasks with a high level of personal responsibility
  • support from and cooperation with competent colleagues
  • team-oriented cooperation in a committed, international and appreciative team

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
