The Chair of Quantum Information at the Faculty of Computer Science is looking for a
In our research group we explore the implications of quantum mechanics on the theory of computing. Quantum computers do not simply compute faster, but operate using completely different principles than ordinary“classical” computers - this requires completely new ideas. In addition, we investigate interdisciplinary applications of quantum information to problems in other areas of computer science, mathematics, and theoretical physics. Please see our homepage and publications (qi.rub.de) for an overview of current research directions in the group.
How could quantum computing enhance optimization problems that are central to modern industries, such as production planning and logistics? And how does the algorithmic toolbox of optimization need to be improved to realize these insights? As part of the BMBF-funded project QuSol, you will be part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team of academic and industrial experts across Germany in a consortium aimed at investigating how quantum algorithms can be applied to solve complex optimization challenges. If you are looking forward to creatively combining ideas from different areas to contribute towards making quantum computing a practical tool for solving real-world problems, then you should consider applying!

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
