The Chair of Quantum Information at the Faculty of Computer Science is looking for a
PhD (m,f,x) for 3 years or a Postdoc (m,f,x) for 2 years with 39,83 hours per week, TV-L E13
In our research group we explore the implications of quantum mechanics on the theory of computing. Quantum computers do not simply compute faster, but operate using completely different principles than ordinary“classical” computers - this requires completely new ideas. In addition, we investigate interdisciplinary applications of quantum information to problems in other areas of computer science, mathematics, and theoretical physics. Please see our homepage and publications (qi.rub.de) for an overview of current research directions in the group.
How could quantum computing enhance optimization problems that are central to modern industries, such as production planning and logistics? And how does the algorithmic toolbox of optimization need to be improved to realize these insights? As part of the BMBF-funded project QuSol, you will be part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team of academic and industrial experts across Germany in a consortium aimed at investigating how quantum algorithms can be applied to solve complex optimization challenges. - You will work on fundamental research questions (such as the above) as part of a diverse international and interdisciplinary team.
- You will publish and present your research results in top conferences and journals.
Your profile:
- By default, you have a MSc or PhD degree (or are close to completing one) in mathematics, computer science, theoretical physics, or a related field. Outstanding candidates with a BSc degree can also be considered for a PhD position.
- You have an excellent academic track record in quantum computing.
- You are curiosity driven, enjoy combining creativity with mathematical precision, and are open to interdisciplinary collaborations.
- You are fluent in written and spoken English.
