Professorship (W3) for Statics and Dynamics (m/f/d)

We are looking for a scientifically outstanding personality who researches current and innovative topics in the field of statics and dynamics, publishes the results successfully and with high international visibility and inspires students and staff for these topics. The future post holder should complement the existing focal points at the faculty and actively develop them further. Outstanding performance in several of the following areas is desired:

  • Numerical structure simulation, identification and optimisation
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Circular construction
  • Dealing with uncertainties
  • Safety, reliability and resilience
  • Underground construction and subsurface engineering
    extent: full-time
    duration: permanent employment
    beginning: as soon as possible
    closing date: 15.08.2022

Ideally, the applicant is familiar with the procedures of planning and construction processes from his/her own perspective in order to ensure practical relevance in teaching and engineering research on this basis.

Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. Habilitation or significant post-doctoral research contributions) and teaching experience are as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

    Furthermore we expect:

    • strong commitment to academic teaching at graduate and undergraduate level including involvement in the faculty's English-language Computational Engineering and Subsurface Engineering programs
    • readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research
    • willingness and proven ability to acquire significant externally funded research projects and to participate in research collaborations
    • strong leadership experience

Applications with the usual documents (cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, evidence of special suitability for academic teaching, list of engineering projects worked on, details of research interests, list of own third-party funding, description of the three most significant achievements), exclusively in digital form, are requested under the specification ANR 759 by 15.08.2022 to the Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Prof. Dr. sc. techn. habil. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
