The Chair of Operating Systems and System Software at the Faculty of Computer Science is looking for a

Research associate / PhD Student in the Field of Operating Systems and System Software(m,f,x) for 3 years, 39,83 hours per week, TVL E13

Efficiency in resources, energy and CO2 is the decisive factor for modern computer systems. Operating systems and system software play a crucial role in reaching the full potential of these systems. The group "Operating Systems and System Software" of the Faculty of Computer Science at Ruhr University Bochum, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Timo Hönig, is conducting innovative research in this field and at the intersections with system security and climate neutrality of modern computer systems.

The research tasks primarily include research activities within the group's projects and with other groups as part of joint research projects. The current research projects are concerned with the question of how the CO2 footprint of our systems can be analysed and reduced and how this can be implemented with the help of operating systems and system software. To this end, dynamic software specialisations as well as energy and CO2 models are to be used, among other things.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
