Postdoctoral researcher (m/f/x) - GCCL Fellowship Programme

The German Centre for Cosmological Lensing (GCCL; https://gccl-rub.github.io) welcomes applications for a three year postdoctoral fellowship hosted at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). In addition to the main centre at RUB, the GCCL includes nodes at Bielefeld, Bonn, Garching, Heidelberg, and Munich.

Your tasks:

  • Weak gravitational lensing and/or clustering analysis of wide-field imaging surveys
  • Exploration of new observables
  • Simulation of certain aspects of these experiments
  • Quantification and correction of systematic errors
  • Presentation of results within collaborations and at international conferences
  • Teaching 

Your profile:

  • We are seeking applicants with an PhD in astronomy/astrophysics and expertise in some of the varied and important skill sets required for the cosmological lensing analysis of Rubin/LSST and Euclid. These skills include:
    • image processing,
    • image simulation,
    • photometry,
    • shear and redshift estimation,
    • mock catalogue production,
    • statistical data analysis,
    • cosmological parameter inference and
    • theoretical modelling of weak lensing observables.
  • Letters of recommendation from two referees should be sent to secretary@astro.rub.de before the closing date.
  • Candidates should submit a CV and research proposal of up to two pages each via RUB’s BITE application system before Jan 5th 2026.

    The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

    The load of teaching will be calculated according to § 3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).

    The first round of video-interviews will be scheduled in the second half of January 2026.

    RUB sees itself as a university with an international presence. The campus languages are German and English. Competence in at least one of the two languages and the willingness to learn the other are a prerequisite. RUB provides corresponding free courses for employees.
