The Ruhr-Universität Bochum – faculty of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for the position of a tenure-track Professor (W2) in Experimental Physics in the field of hadron physics to start as soon as possible, which will lead after a successful evaluation into a W3 chair position (https://l.rub.de/23952be7).

PROFESSOR (m/f/div; W2 with tenure track to W3) IN EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS IN THE FIELD OF EXPERIMENTAL HADRON PHYSICS

The future holder of the post will represent the subject in research and teaching. From the research perspective, the professorship is deeply embedded into the NRW excellence network NRW-FAIR. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to develop a productive and vigorous externallyfunded research program in the field of experimental hadron physics as well as the enthusiasm and drive to teach and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students. The new professorship should strengthen and/or complement existing activities in the field of hadron spectroscopy. The successful candidate should take part in the planning, construction and running of experiments and detectors, e.g. the PANDA experiment, at the future FAIR facility in Germany. Modern detector technology is also used in the engineering sciences or medicine, and there are already existing alliances in Bochum in this regard.

                extent: full-time
                beginning: as soon as possible
                closing date: 15.09.2022

                The successful candidate is expected to contribute proactively to both Bachelor and Master level teaching, supervision of doctoral students and scientific staff mentoring. Teaching duties will concentrate on the experimental physics curriculum. Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. Habilitation or significant post-doctoral research contributions) and teaching experience are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s mission statement.

                We expect in addition to a strong commitment to research in hadron physics:

                • strong commitment to academic teaching at graduate and undergraduate level;
                • Promotion of young researchers;
                • readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research;
                • documented ability to attract external funding;
                • readiness to contribute to joint research projects of the department;
                • commitment to public outreach activities.

                Complete applications including CV, copies of academic certificates, list of publications, list of selfraised third-party funds, and a teaching record as well as a statement of teaching philosophy and a research plan should be sent by email under the specification ANR 864 to the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (dekanat@physik.rub.de) not later than 15.09.2022.

                The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.

                The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favor a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
