The multi-messenger group at Ruhr-University Bochum (https://people.astro.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/afranck lead by Prof. Anna Franckowiak) is searching for a new group member (m/f/d). The group is involved in multiwavelength data analysis ranging from optical (ASAS-SN, LS4, LAST) to gamma-ray data (CTAO, VERITAS, Fermi-LAT). In addition, we are involved in high-energy neutrino astronomy with the IceCube Observatory, in the development of a wide field-of-view optical polarization survey instrument based on the modular design of LAST and in the development of a novel array of small, ground-based gamma-ray telescopes, Dark100 (https://epuesche.github.io/).

Your tasks:

development of LAST polarization data analysis pipeline
analysis of first LAST polarization data and publication of science results
development of science case for joint gamma-ray and polarization observations
contribution to CTAO or Dark100 software development
science preparation and early data analysis for CTAO or Dark100
presentation of results within the collaborations and at international conferences
supervision of students
teaching

Your profile:

university degree (at least Master’s degree) in astroparticle physics, astrophysics or a related field
good knowledge of English
good coding skills (preferentially in python)
excellent communication and presentation skills
experience in data analysis
experience in optical time-domain and / or gamma-ray astronomy is a plus
