The Faculty of Computer Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Junior Professor with Tenure Track (W2) for Databases and Information Systems (Salary Scale W1) to start as soon as possible.

We are looking for a proven representative from a current research area of databases and information systems. Applicants should have an excellent track record in research and teaching in at least one of the following subfields:

  • Database Engines and Systems
  • Data Mining and Data Analytics
  • Scalable data management and architectures
  • Semi-structured data and semantic web
  • Machine Learning, AI, and Databases
                    extent: full-time
                    duration: W1TTW2
                    beginning: as soon as possible
                    closing date: 15.08.2024

We are looking for a scientist with an internationally visible research profile who will complement existing focal points and actively participate in the development of the Faculty of Computer Science. The responsibilities of the professorship include teaching in computer science-related degree programmes and an appropriate contribution to academic self-administration.

Excellent scientific qualifications are required, usually demonstrated by a PhD of outstanding quality and first-class international publications (e.g. VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, KDD, WWW), as well as good didactic skills and experience in teaching and research. Furthermore, the willingness to work interdisciplinary and to acquire third-party funded research projects is expected.

The professorship will be established within the framework of a Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses. The appointment to the position is linked to tenure track for the appointment to a W2 professorship. If the evaluation is positive, the appointment to a W2 position is made without a new advertisement in an appropriately simplified appointment procedure.

Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, list of publications, proof of special suitability for academic teaching, details of research interests, list of own third-party funding) should be sent under the specification ANR 3446 via email by 15.08.2024 to Vice Dean Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tim Güneysu, via informatik-dekanat@rub.de.

More extensive information can be found on the faculty homepage at https://informatik.rub.de/.
