The Faculty of Social Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor W2 (m/f/d) in POLITICAL SCIENCE/ POLICY ANALYSIS AND ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCE commencing 1. October 2026.

The holder of the position will represent the subject of

POLITICAL SCIENCE/ POLICY ANALYSIS AND ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCE

in research and teaching.


We prefer applicants with qualifications in these key areas:

  1. theoretical and empirical analysis of agenda setting, policy formulation and implementation of political decisions;
  2. structures, procedures and development in public administration;
  3. a special focus on the spatial dimension of politics and administration in multi-level systems.

Experience with research projects on national, comparative or European policy analyses and administrative science and corresponding courses is desirable. We expect the selected applicant to collaborate in one or more of the faculty's interdisciplinary research clusters (in particular ‘State’, ‘Space and Social Inequality’ and ‘International Dynamics’) and in the ZEFIR (Centre for Interdisciplinary Regional Research). Furthermore, the position holder is expected to engage in cross-faculty cooperation within the university.

The professorship teaches in B.A. and M.A. social science programmes. At B.A. level, the selected candidate mostly teaches and convenes courses in the modules ‘Urban and Regional Development’ and ‘Political System of Germany’. At M.A. level, the position holder teaches mostly in two study programmes: ‘City and Region’ and ‘Culture and Democracy’. Furthermore, the willingness to regularly offer courses in English is expected.

Requirements

Positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement and evidence of special aptitude are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s mission statement. The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NW.

We expect furthermore:
        • a strong commitment in teaching;
        • the readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work;
        • the willingness and proven ability to attract third-party funded research projects;
        • contributions to international collaboration.
