The Chair of Microbial Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine is looking for a

PhD position (m,f,x) for 3 years with 25,8895 hours per week (TV-L E 13)

The Microbial Biochemistry group is interested in the multifaceted biochemistry of microorganisms. Bacteria are not only the causative agent of many infectious diseases but also great model organisms to explore basic concepts of biology.

The successful applicant will work as a PhD candidate on a DFG-funded project. She or he will study the role of N-chloramines, a novel post-translational modification, in host-microbe interactions and chronic inflammation. The candidate will establish, synthesize, and use chemo-proteomic probes to detect and quantify N-chloramines in bacteria, mammalian cells and eventually patient samples. The successful applicant will become a member of the IGB (International Graduate School of Biosciences, https://www.biologie.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/promotion/index.html.en) or GSCB (Graduate School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, https://www.chemie.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/gscb/index.html.en).

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates.
