The Chair of Quantum Information at the Faculty of Computer Science is looking for a

research associate / PhD (m,f,x) for 3 years with 39,83 hours per week, TV-L E 12/13

In our research group we explore the implications of quantum mechanics on the theory of computing. Quantum computers do not simply compute faster, but operate using completely different principles than ordinary “classical” computers - this requires completely new ideas. In addition, we investigate interdisciplinary applications of quantum information to problems in other areas of computer science, mathematics, and theoretical physics. Please see our homepage and publications ( for an overview of current research directions in the group.

You will have the opportunity to take an active role in shaping the direction of your research project. Possible topics include but are not limited to: quantum information; quantum algorithms and complexity; quantum cryptography; many-body quantum information; quantum programming and formal methods; mathematical foundations and connections. You will be part of a diverse international team, creatively combining ideas from different areas to make progress on central questions in the field.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
