The Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor W2 (m/f/d) in Theoretical Plasma Physics commencing at the earliest possible date.

The holder of the position will represent the subject of

Theoretical Plasma Physics

in research and teaching.

Plasma research at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum covers a broad field that includes plasma-astrophysics as well as atomic and molecular physics in the gas phase, at interfaces and especially in plasmas. Existing research collaborations of the faculty in these scientific research areas include the two Collaborative Research Centers (CRCs), funded by the DFG: CRC1491 “Cosmic Interacting Matters - From Source to Signal” and CRC1316 “Transient Atmospheric Plasmas - From Plasmas to Liquids to Solids”. Plasma physics research activities in Bochum are coordinated in the Research Department for Plasmas with Complex Interactions (RD Plasma with Complex Interactions) and in the Ruhr Astroparticle and Plasma Physics Center (RAPP Center).

An excellent researcher is sought to strengthen and complement the activities of physics in Bochum particularly in the field of Theoretical Plasma Physics - in both research and teaching. An active participation in the research activities of the RAPP Center and the RD Plasma with complex interactions is expected. The incumbent is expected to be actively involved in the planned research activities in the context of current and future CRC applications and other possible coordinated programs.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
