The Chair Institute of Philosophy I - Logic and Epistemology of the Faculty  of Philosophy and Education is seeking, starting 01.10.2022, a

Postdoc (m,f,x) for 3 years with 39,83 hours per week, TVL E13

Within the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant "Contradictory Logics: A Radical Challenge to Logical Orthodoxy" (Prof. Heinrich Wansing), <https://sites.google.com/view/contradictory-logics/home>, the following position is available at the Ruhr University Bochum. For the subproject on philosophy of logics, a postdoc is sought with expertise in the philosophy of logic, knowledge of philosophy of science and interest in the history of logic. The project will study the impact of certain nontrivial negation inconsistent logics, including connexive logics, on the philosophy of logic. Questions of interest include: What are the consequences of using a negation-consistent logic for theory building, theory choice, and theory evaluation? Are there traces of this question in the history of logic? To what extent does the existence of adversarial logics argue in favor of an for an anti-exceptionalism of logic, i.e., the view that logic does not enjoy special status compared to other sciences? Does the advocacy of adversarial logic have implications for answering the question of whether or not logic is a normative discipline?
This is a research position.
