The Chair of Multi-wavelength astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy is looking for a

Scientific researcher (m,f,x) for 2 years,39,83 hours per week, TVL E13

The newly funded ERC consolidator group “Dark100”, led by Elisa Pueschel (, is searching for a new group member (m/f/d). Dark100 will deploy an array of ~10 small Fresnel telescopes, designed by the PANOSETI group at University of San Diego, and use them for the detection of >10 TeV gamma rays via the imaging atmospheric Cherenkov technique. The ultimate goal of the project is to search for dark matter at higher masses than are probed by classical Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes. The selected researcher will play a leading role in developing the software for data reduction, as well as simulation of the array and optimization of the array layout. The researcher will also contribute to array deployment and verification, and analysis of early data.

The researcher will also be part of RUB’s multi-messenger group, led by Anna Franckowiak (, which is involved in multi-wavelength data analysis ranging from optical (ZTF, ASAS-SN, LS4, LAST) to gamma-ray data (VERITAS, Fermi-LAT, CTA). In addition, the group is involved in high-energy neutrino astronomy with the IceCube Observatory and in the development of a wide field-of-view survey instrument based on the modular design of LAST.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
