In order to fill a fixed-term position in part-time (29.87 hours/week = 75%;) April 2026, we are looking for 1

Research assistant (m/f/x) one doctoral candidate for a period of three years with 29.87 hours per week (TV-L E13)

The research group of Prof. Dr. Sophie Langer at the Faculty of Mathematics is seeking a motivated research associate to strengthen the team in the area of deep learning theory, with a particular focus on statistical questions. Our research focuses include, among others, the theoretical analysis of estimation methods using neural networks, the investigation of optimization, natural modeling of complex predication problems (e.g., image classification, natural language processing), as well as the statistical theory of reinforcment learning.

Your tasks:

  • Active participation in research on the statistical theory of deep learning
  • Teaching responsibilities in the excercise session of courses offered by the Faculty of Mathematics

Your profile:

  • Applicants with a Master's degree in Statistics or Mathematics and strong expertise in mathematical statistics are sought
  • Experience in conducting mathematics teaching tasks, espially with students from scientific, technical, and economic disciplines
  • Willingness for further academic qualification is offered and encouraged

    The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E 13 TV-L.

    The load of teaching will be calculated according to § 3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).
