The Department of Neurophysiology at the Faculty of Medicine is looking for a 

PhD Student (m,f,x) for 3 years with 25,8895 hours per week, TV-L E13

The Department of Neurophysiology at the Medical Faculty of the Ruhr University Bochum hosts a vibrant and talented team of neuroscientists from a variety of scientific backgrounds that implement multidisciplinary approaches to understanding the mechanisms underlying memory. 

A PhD position is currently available for a candidate that has a strong interest in, and ideally, prior training in the area of immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridisation in the rodent brain in conjunction with behavioral studies.

Your tasks:

  •  The PhD project will focus on the interaction of corticofugal systems in the enabling of sensory perception.
  • Along with immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridisation, rodent behavioural paradigms will be implemented.
  • The integration of rodent fMRI in the project is possible depending on the qualification of the candidate.
  • Data acquisition, analysis and interpretation is a prerequisite.

Your profile:

  • completed master's degree in a suitable field of study (e.g. neuroscience, animal biology, biochemistry)
  • ideally, prior training in the area of immunohistochemistry and/or fluorescence in situ hybridisation in the rodent brain
  • knowledge of the rodent brain anatomy and the cellular basis of sensory perception
  • experience with respective signal analysis is advantageous
  • admission to the International Graduate School of Neuroscience (www.rub.de/igsn) will be expected
