The Chair of Tectonic Geodesy at the Faculty of Geosciences is looking for a 

Earthquake Data Scientist (m,f,x) for 3 years with 39,83 hours per week, TV-L E13

The Tectonic Geodesy working group at RUB is conducting earthquake research with a data science approach. We are using terrabytes of GNSS, laboratory, and seismological data, modern machine learning optimization approaches, and high performance computing to accelerate discoveries of earthquake phenomena.

Tectonic Geodesy is looking for a postdoctoral researcher (m,f,x) to perform earthquake-related research using advanced machine learning approaches.

Your tasks:

  • Carrying out earthquake research with geodetic or seismic data with a focus on the application of modern machine learning techniques to these data.
  • Co-developing and co-teaching an MSc. Level course on machine learning.
  • 4 hours per week of teaching-related duties.

Your profile:

  • A PhD (or scheduled to complete a PhD within the next 6 months) in geophysics, data science, or related field
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed, internationally recognized journals
  • International research experience (collaborations, research stays, international conferences)
  • Experience applying machine learning algorithms to geophysical data
