Coordinator for Human Electrophysiology Core (m/w/d)

The position is based in the Predictive Brain Department, a newly established unit within the Faculty of Psychology. Our mission is to accelerate understanding of how perception, consciousness, and memory emerge from neural circuits, and how predictive processes shape experience and behavior in real-world contexts. The department brings together an international and multicultural team of researchers from psychology, medicine, computer science, physics, mathematics, and biology. It is part of the Research Center One Health within the Research Alliance Ruhr, with strong national and international collaborations supported by third-party funding.

Your tasks:

  • Coordinate the Human Electrophysiology Core within the Predictive Brain Department, ensuring its role as a central hub for cutting-edge research.
  • Conduct advanced research using invasive and non-invasive electrophysiology, including mobile intracranial recordings and mobile EEG.
  • Publish and disseminate scientific work through conference presentations, journals and also outreach activities
  • Perform and supervise complex analyses, including single-unit data in both humans and animal models.
  • Develop innovative approaches, such as mobile laboratory solutions for recording physiological and electrophysiological signals.
  • Interface with clinical and technical personal to conduct research in clinical context
  • Supervise and train students and junior researchers, ensuring the next generation of scientists acquires cutting-edge expertise.
  • Maintain direct contact with patients, providing recruitment, reassurance, safeguarding, and ensuring ethical and safe practices during participation.
  • Oversee safety protocols and technical infrastructure, providing guidance to ensure compliance with institutional and legal requirements.
  • Secure third-party funding to advance the department’s research mission and expand international collaborations.
  • Promote open science practices, including management of code and data repositories, sharing resources with the broader scientific community, and integrating them into RUB’s educational programs.

Your profile:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in neuroscience, physiology, or a related discipline.
  • Proven expertise in mobile intracranial recordings and mobile EEG.
  • Proven expertise in the analysis of single-unit data, both in humans and in animal models.
  • Strong background in invasive and non-invasive electrophysiology and complex data analysis.
  • Strong publication record in human or translational electrophysiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead independent research and manage technical infrastructure.
  • Experience in patient-facing research, with sensitivity to safeguarding and participant care.
  • Successful track record in acquiring or contributing to third-party funding.
  • Commitment to open science and reproducibility, with experience in managing shared data/code resources.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and mentor researchers at all levels.
  • Very good command of English; German language skills are advantageous.

    The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

    If the position is funded by third-party funds the employee has no teaching obligation.
