Faculty of Mechanical Engineering:
Chair of Hydraulic Fluid Machinery (HSM)
In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) as soon as possible, we are looking for a
The main research topic of the Chair of Hydraulic Fluid Machinery (HSM) is the development of customised CFD methods for the numerical simulation of multiphase flow in fluid machinery and their components. Application examples cover rotating and displacement machinery, injection systems and basic investigations. We focus on the customised development of numerical schemes and physical models, for example for the computation of cavitation, multiphase and multispecies fluid flow, jet break-up, bubble dynamics and turbulence. Thereby, a bridge is built from basic and methodological research to industrial research and applications on machinery.
In this research project, CFD methods for multiphase flow (gas-laden liquids) are developed and applied to rotating machinery (pumps). The prediction of head break-down due to gas accumulation within the impeller channel is in the focus. Therefore, the transition from bubbly dispersed flow to coherent gas pockets needs to be captured by a customized hybrid solver.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
