The Department of Organisational and Personnel Development bundles core functions of personnel and organisational development at the RUB. It strives to establish a culture of organisational and individual development by providing advisory and qualification services for managers and employees and by creating motivating, attractive working conditions. It targets groups across the entire personnel spectrum including academic, artistic, technological, and administrative staff. The international profile of the RUB necessitates an internationally focussed administration.

To further this aim, the RUB is looking for an 

employee (m/f/d) to create an English-Support-Service

in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%), initially limited for 3 years.

Your tasks:

  • Supporting central administration employees:
    o in creating text modules
    o by checking the quality of translations
    o through the preparation of sample texts and handouts thus contributing to the process of learning in the workplace
  • Designing suitable training formats for employees in cooperation with the RUB University Language Centre and, if necessary, helping to implement them
  • Building up a terminology management resource by undertaking the following: o Development and maintenance of a common, binding, internal glossary for the RUB
    o Creation and maintenance of a terminology database
    o Creation and maintenance of a translation memory bank (translation archive)
  • The selection, acquisition and maintenance of translation software
  • The vetting and quality assurance of external cooperation partners for translations as well as the supervision of framework contracts
  • Work in the RUB-admint programme, which nurtures staff intercultural competence
  • Establishing – within the framework of these activities – a firm scope of responsibilities for a permanent English-Support-Service
  • Active participation both conceptual and implementation phases of projects, working in a supportive and coordinating capacity

Your profile:


  • You enjoy practical, skills-based English language teaching in a professional context
  • You have a sound overview of organisations and their internal processes and can work in a structured, independent, and solution-based manner
  • You are capable of maintaining an overview in opaque or paradoxical situations
  • You take an interest in familiarizing yourself with new issues and demonstrate initiative when undertaking new tasks
  • You are active and creative when looking for solutions to obstacles which may arise
  • You enjoy working with others – and to this end are confident, approachable, and engaging
  • Your work bears the hallmark of clear analytical and conceptual skills combined with a meticulous, thorough approach to implementation
  • You enjoy collaborative teamwork in which each person’s specific skills contributes to the team’s overall success
  • You have a keen interest in continuous personal development
  • You have successfully completed a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline: Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), language teaching research, applied linguistics or foreign language didactics (preferably in English / American Studies)
  • You possess German language skills at level C1 (CEFR) or above
  • You have extensive experience in the teaching of English in vocational contexts and in the development of corresponding curricula and learning/teaching materials
  • We require stylistic proficiency in both written and spoken English in addition to excellent expressive and communicative skills
  • You have project management experience in developing and establishing new areas of responsibility
  • Public service experience, preferably in a higher education institution, is an advantage
  • Familiarity with the use of a PC and the MS Office package is expected
  • Ideally, you should have experience in the use and maintenance of translation software or translation tools

The employment relationship will be based on the joint labour agreement of the federal states (TV-L). If you meet the personal qualification and TV-L criteria, your employment contract will be classified according to pay grade E13 of the TV-L. (https://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/)
