In order to fill a fixed-term position in part-time (26,5533 hours/week) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for  a

PhD researcher (m/f/x), 26,5533 hours/week, 3 years

The research interests at the Chair of Applied Microbiology at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology focus on the discovery and biological characterization of antibiotics. We seek to fill a doctoral position to address the “Discovery and characterization of novel antibacterial natural products”.

The goal of the doctoctoral research project will be the purification and structure elucidation of natural products and the characterization of their antibacterial activity in vitro and in vivo.

Your tasks:

The method spectrum will span Streptomyces molecular biology, preparative HPLC, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and MIC assays. In addition to applying these established methods, a task will be to stet up an invertebrate infection model for tolerability and efficacy testing.

Your profile:

The successful canditate (m/f/d) will have earned a Master’s degree in Microbiology / Biology / Biochemistry / Chemistry / Biotechnology or related subject area.

The candidate (m/f/d) will have solid knowledge of microbiology and microbial physiology. Experience in bacterial molecular biology, natural product research, antibiotic research, handling of pathogens, handling of invertebrates will be of benefit.

Excellent computer skills, excellent English skills, excellent teamwork and communication are expected.

It is expected that the candidate (m/f/d) will present her/his research results at national and international scientific meetings and contribute to their publication in international peer-reviewed journals.

It is further expected that the candidate participates in teaching undergraduates.

    The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade TV-L E13 TV-L.

    The load of teaching will be calculated according to § 3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).
