The Working Group Microbial Biotechnology of at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnologyis looking for a

Postdoctoral research assistant (m,f,x) for 2 years (+2 optional), 39,83 hours per week, TVL E13

The multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team of microbial biotechnology at Ruhr University Bochum is devoted to developing new biocatalysts and reaction strategies towards compounds of relevance for health and industry. With the overarching goal to reach a more sustainable economy, we identify and optimize enzymes (from gene to product) and integrate them into complex reaction cascades. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation to acheive biotechnological break-throughs. As part of an industry-academia consortial project, we currently offer a 24-month Postdoc position with the option to extend up to 48 months.

Your research project focuses on the establishment and optimization of a biocatalytic redox reaction cascade. This will include methods of enzyme mining, production and engineering, coupling with other chemo- and biocatalytic reactions, as well as reaction optimization, and scaling. Different formulations of the reaction setting as well as cellular tolerances will be explored.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
