The Faculty of Social Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum seeks to fill a W2 Professorship for Qualitative Methods of Social Research as soon as possible.

W2 PROFESSORSHIP FOR QUALITATIVE METHODS OF SOCIAL RESEARCH (M/F/D)

The future full professor will represent the subject of Qualitative Methods at the faculty’s Research Methods and Statistics section in research and teaching. She or he should have an excellent track record in research and teaching in at least one of the following areas:

          • Qualitative interviews (planning, conducting, and analysis, using content-analytic, reconstructive or interpretative methods)
          • Document analysis (e.g. using qualitative content analysis, grounded theory and other methods for the analysis of texts and images)
          • Epistemological and methodological questions

              In addition, we welcome a focus in social science research with digital qualitative methods or prospective development opportunities towards digital qualitative methods, especially regarding the collection and analysis of internet-based content.

              The professorship contributes to the interdisciplinary degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Social Science, with obligations ranging from teaching principles of Qualitative Research Methods at the Bachelor’s level to teaching advanced topics at the Master’s level programme on Social Science Research Methods, as well as the module “Qualitative Methods of Social Research”. Participation in the Ruhr Universität Bochum Method Center and in one or more research clusters of the faculty are part of the other responsibilities, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration with the teaching and research units of the faculty and the university.

              The appointment requirements in accordance with § 36 ff. of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW; https://uni.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/en/appointments) must be met.

              Other mandatory requirements include:

              • Qualification for and deep commitment to academic teaching;
              • Willingness to engage with interdisciplinary research and collaboration;
              • Experience with securing projects with third-party funding;
              • International visibility and network;
              • Readiness to participate in academic administration.
