Your tasks:

  • We are a leading group in the development of machine learning potentials and their application to various topics in chemistry and materials science. The projects will involve the development and implementation of advanced methods to represent high-dimensional potential energy surfaces employing neural networks. Moreover, atomistic simulations of various systems like complex materials, interfaces or chemistry in solution will be performed. The newly established Research Center Chemical Sciences and Sustainability offers an exciting interdisciplinary research environment with state-of-the-art equipment and excellent working conditions. There are several openings for which consideration of candidates will begin immediately and end when suitable candidates have been found.

Your profile:

  • You have a PhD in computational/theoretical chemistry, physics, materials science or a related field and excellent communication skills in English. The ideal candidate will also have experience in electronic structure calculations (preferably density functional theory), atomistic simulation techniques like molecular dynamics or Monte Carlo, and programming skills in Python and/or Fortran. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates.
